Tonga - Vava'u Island

The Tongan Beach Resort has 12 recently refurbished, sun-dappled rooms, twin, double or triple, including two interconnecting rooms, all have inspiring views of the beach and crystal clear, turquoise waters of the Port of Refuge Harbour.

The rooms are only meters from the water's edge and include private bathrooms with hot and cold showers, electric ceiling fans, fridges and tea/coffee making facilities.

Feel free to wander through the local village, 'UTUNGAKE, often local ladies are weaving in the village hall about half way through the village on the right hand side. The ladies will welcome your interest.

At the end of the island there is another village called Talihau, which is a 45-minute walk each way, where there is a nice beach for swimming and snorkeling.

The Tongan Beach Resort is in the enviable position of being able to offer Humpback whale watching tours to guests.

The Tongan Beach Resort is on the seasonal migration path of the Humpback whale and these magnificent mammals can often be seen with their young.

If you are a fan of light tackle, you may wish to bring your own gear, jigs and lures.

The beach is safe for swimming and snorkeling at any tide, the best snorkeling is at the entrance of the resort.

Vava'u is renowned for its sailing so explore it for yourself in the Laser.

The Laser offers an exhilarating experience even in a little wind. Your safety is paramount so life jackets are a must.

The diving in Vava'u is spectacular, the waters are crystal clear, with visibility averaging 30m, and the water is warm all year round.

There is an incredible variety of diving in this small group of magnificent islands. See hard corals that truly are untouched, and soft coral gardens in a myriad of colors, plus one of the best Gorgonian fan dives in the South Pacific.

There are unique caves, spectacular underwater archways, and the 122m wreck of the Clan McWilliam which sank over 50 years ago, sitting upright and still intact.

Beluga Diving and Dolphin Pacific Diving are both experienced  dive operators with shops located in the local township of Neiafu. They offer pick and drop off from the jetty at The  Tongan Beach Resort.

Snorkeling gear is complimentary to house guests and is available from the office, life jackets for all water activities are available for both adults and children, at no charge, from the office, both double and single kayaks are complimentary to house guests.
