Matei Point

A large, comfortable, main house,"The Beach House" along with three cozy, self-contained, bures (cottages) outline the tip of Taveuni in the town of Matei, this is Matei Point Resort.

The four traditional structures are private, quiet and a good distance from each other, and they all share the outrageous views of the beautiful Somosomo Straits, peaceful tranquility.

Matei Pointe is located on Taveuni, the third largest island in Fiji.

Taveuni is a coconut covered island with tropical rain-forests, waterfalls, and sparkling white sand beaches surrounded by some of the world's most pristine coral reefs.

Just 10 minutes past majestic Matei Pointe are four quaint restaurants, a general store, and dive boats for diving enthusiasts. The town of Somosomo is just a short cab ride from the resort, in town, you'll find a bakery, bank, specialty shops and 2 supermarkets.

All of the units have stove/oven/refrigerator/ and sink. The Sunset Bure has a kitchenette and the others are full kitchens.

Don’t want to cook and don’t want to go to a restaurant? Talk to Lo, she cooks wonderful local and western dishes. Arrangements can be made with Pita for a traditional Lovo, a feast cooked in a pit over hot rocks that takes all day

Taveuni is considered one of the top dive sites in the world. Michael Cousteau has dubbed it “the soft coral capital of the world”.

Snorkeling is also wonderful around Matei. Just in front of the house is a live reef with beautiful colors. Because Matei Point is on the Straits, not the ocean, the waters are generally calm and shallow.

 

You'll be hard pressed to leave your deck as you overlook the manicured lawn to the jetty where you can view colorful tropical fish, take a refreshing swim in the shallow crystal clear waters or rock yourself in the hammock with a good book.

The Pointe's main house is a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bath (one with outdoor shower), recently refurbished with both a modern and traditional motif. You'll be as comfortable inside as outside with all the normal amenities.
