GETTING TO THE SOLOMON ISLANDS

The only international airport is in Honiara, which is wartime Henderson field.

The country is serviced by Solomon Airlines, with the best direct route being from Nadi, Fiji.

To get to the Solomon Islands you can connect from Auckland in New Zealand on Air New Zealand. You can also travel through Nadi in Fiji.

SOLOMON ISLANDS CLIMATE

Tropical and humid. During the day coastal temperatures vary from 71 F to 87 F, at nights the temperature falls to 76 F.

Late May to early December mark the country's winter, the trade winds from the south-east produce pleasant milder weather.

SOLOMON ISLANDS DIVING

A computer is a must, for wetsuits a lycra suit is very comfortable with most dive sites being anywhere from 82 - 89 F. Depending on your own comfort level a tropical 3 mil is most adequate.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For US citizens, a passport valid six months after departure date and a entry permit which is issued upon entry.

DEPARTURE TAX

Solomon Island dollars $ 30.00 per person paid at departure hall.

HEALTH CONCERNS

The only major health concern is malaria. It is advised to take anti-malaria medication before, during and after your trip. Contact your physician for the best information regarding your health care. CDC also has a wealth of information for traveling to this area, it is a concern, but is not a reason to not travel to this area, just be informed, take precautions as being covered at sunrise and sunset when the mosquitoes that transmit the malaria are present. And to have bug spray that contains Deet for coverage at that time.

ELECTRICITY

240/415 v. 50 hz international adapters and voltage converters are required.

CLOTHING

Casual dress is acceptable throughout the Solomon's. Females should dress modestly when in villages and townships.

LANGUAGE

Predominately English speaking although Pidgin is spoken by locals.

TIPPING

Not encouraged nor customary.
