Around RarotongaWalks & Climbs Get off the beaten path and explore the Cooks! The most popular hike in Rarotonga is the cross-island mountain trek guided by one of Rarotonga’s most interesting natives, who will point out the flora and fauna, and local myths. This is a strenuous hike that includes a stop at "The Needle", a unique rock formation high above Rarotonga - the views are well worth the climb! There are many other trails that go off the main island road. You can park at the bottom and head up the path to beautiful scenic stops. Sailing & Windsurfing Windsurfers, sailboats and catamarans are available for hire. The Rarotonga Sailing Club at Muri Beach welcomes all visitors.
Tennis and Squash Several of the hotels have good quality tennis facilities, and some offer tennis coaching. Squash courts are also available for hire. Golf The Rarotonga Golf Club welcomes visitors to its picturesque 9-hole course at Black Rock. Some unique hazards make this a must for golf fans. Clubs are available for hire.
Rarotonga offers an interesting variety of restaurants to tempt your taste buds. There are over 20 restaurants, including some located at resorts, high-class eateries, and friendly "island style” cafes. The selections range from superb continental cuisine, to family selections of Chinese, Indian, Italian, seafood and steaks. A must is an Island Night show that features traditional "umukai" feasts with succulent food cooked island style in an underground oven- a very special taste!
Deep Sea Fishing You can charter a boat, head to the outer reefs, and spend an exciting day deep sea fishing. Market Day Head into town on Saturday morning and experience the wonderful local Market Day. Walk around, taste locally produced food, check out the fresh fruits and vegetables, local handicrafts, and locally caught seafood. Share the Market experience with your Cook Island friends. 4WD Inland Tour Explore the inland heights of Rarotonga via 4WD vehicles. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the inland road. Cultural Village Tour Visit the local village at work. You will see traditional Maori methods of cooking, farming, medicine, fishing, carving, costume making, and hear traditional folk lore. Enjoy lunch and a Cooks dance/song presentation. Aitutaki Day Trip Your day trip begins with a morning transfer to the airport, where you board one of the prettiest inter-island flights you will ever experience. Once on Aitutaki, you will enjoy a circle island tour, with a stop at the market in town. Board a boat for a lagoon cruise and lunch. Put on your snorkel gear and hop in!
