Tropical North Queensland
Tropical North Queensland is the best starting-off point for visiting the Great Barrier Reef, as well as having many other natural wonders within close proximity. Cairns is a fantastic city from which to base your adventures. A day out on the reef is a highlight. Our day with TUSA Dive started first thing in the morning, when they picked us up at our hotel. After checking in with the staff, we enjoyed a light breakfast while getting the overview for the day from the friendly crew. Our trip to the Outer Great Barrier Reef was fast and scenic. The boat was very comfortable, and takes less than 30 lucky divers and snorkelers. TUSA specializes in great dive instruction and thorough dive briefings. TUSA is a great choice for snorkelers, as they have guided snorkel outings. The diving and the snorkeling are world-class! The crew was thorough and professional, and focused on our safety. Our day on the Great Barrier Reef was so wonderful, we immediately signed up for another day trip for the next day! While visiting Tropical North Queensland, we highly recommend taking advantage of one or more of the wonderful activities from The Adventure Company. The Adventure Company is one of the premier tour operators in and around Cairns. You can choose between sea kayak adventures, Outback treks, cultural Aboriginal rock art visits, and more, for either day trips or extended nature stays.
We spent another wonderful day with The Adventure Company on a Wilderness Canoe. Our very peaceful day was spent canoeing down the Mulgrave River, which is 30 minutes from Cairns. The pristine river and forest is the perfect place to reflect on the beauty of nature. Our guides were very friendly and very knowledgeable. Our lunch beside the river was followed with a refreshing swim. The canoes were very stable, and the whole experience was very relaxing. When people think of Australia, one of the first things that comes to mind is the Great Barrier Reef. One of the natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef is a scuba diver's and snorkeler's paradise.
Our first day was spent hiking through the rainforest. Our day started early in the morning, with a short drive to Mossman Gorge, where we took a hike up the trail that paralleled the river. The sounds, smells, and sights of the rainforest were almost spiritual. We continued on our day trip to a wonderful little town, stopping for morning tea. Our tour continued, as we drove over rainforest clad mountains. We stopped beside a river and joined up with a great Wildlife River Cruise, where we spotted crocodiles, pythons, birds, and some of the rainforest's best flora and fauna. As we got back into the vehicle for our trip up to Daintree and Cape Tribulation, it started to rain - which is the best way to see the rainforest!
Our lunch stop took us to one of the great rainforest resorts, where we dined under huge, timber ceilings, with the sounds of nature around us. We visited the absolutely stunning beach of Cape Tribulation. Our experienced guide took us for another trek, where he pointed out some of the secrets contained within the unique rainforest life.
